Meet Dr. Rummel
About UsAre those really kangaroos?
Yep. More about that in a minute. Dr. Jason Rummel is from Revloc, PA and graduated from Central Cambria School District in 1993. He attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania majoring in Music Education and focusing on trumpet. While at IUP, he taught at the University Labratory School with Dr. John Kuehn. In 1996, he made his first trip to Australia teaching at the Melbourne Youth Music Association's Summer Music Camp. Upon graduation, Dr. Rummel taught conducting, music theory, brass ensemble, and free improvisation at the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts. He was hired to teach in the Mars Area School District where he taught for seven years. During that time, Dr. Rummel earned his Master's degree in Music Education from Duquesne University. He also sang for three seasons with the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh. In 2004, Dr. Rummel moved back to Indiana to teach at the Indiana Area School District. He taught at East Pike, Horace Mann, and Eisenhower Elementary Schools before moving to the Junior High in 2012. In 2010, Dr. Rummel earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University. His research interests include jazz improvisation pedagogy and undergraduate curriculum reform. He presented research at the 3rd International Conference on Narrative Inquiry in Music Education in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. That's where he met the kangaroos. Dr. Rummel's greatest accomplishment is marrying his amazing wife, Rebekah. He has five children - Henry, Stella, Beatrix, Hugo, and Mabel Jane - and couldn't possibly be happier. He loves nearly every type of music and is eager to hear what students enjoy. He's also a huge fan (nerd) of J.R.R. Tolkien and loves to discuss The Lord of the Rings (the movies were OK but the books are AWESOME!) |
This koala was a lot scarier than you would think. He has huge claws and I was instructed to NOT MOVE when holding him or he might attack my face. That smile I'm sporting is a nervous one.
